Comparison of formulas for drag coefficient and settling velocity of spherical particles
Two formulas are proposed for explicitly evaluating drag coefficient and settling velocity of spherical particles, respectively, in the entire subcritical region. Comparisons with fourteen previously-developed formulas show that the present study gives the best representation of a complete set of historical data reported in the literature for Reynolds numbers up to 2×10.
متن کاملApproximate Solutions for Galvanostatic Discharge of Spherical Particles I. Constant Diffusion Coefficient
Approximate models are developed, based on second, fourth, and sixth order polynomials, that describe the concentration profile of an electrochemically active species in a spherical electrode particle. Analytical expressions are obtained that describe the way the concentration profiles, surface concentrations, and electrode utilization change during the galvanostatic discharge of an electrode p...
متن کاملAn approximate analytical solution of the Bethe equation for charged particles in the range of radiotherapy energy
Charged particles such as protons and carbon ions are an increasing tool in radiation therapy. However, unresolved physical problems prevent optimal performance, including estimating the deposited dose in non-homogeneous tissue, is an essential aspect of optimizing treatment. The Monte Carlo (MC) method can be used to estimate the amount of radiation, but, this powerful computing operation is v...
متن کاملDrag force, diffusion coefficient, and electric mobility of small particles. II. Application.
We propose a generalized treatment of the drag force of a spherical particle due to its motion in a laminar fluid media. The theory is equally applicable to analysis of particle diffusion and electric mobility. The focus of the current analysis is on the motion of spherical particles in low-density gases with Knudsen number Kn>>1. The treatment is based on the gas-kinetic theory analysis of dra...
